I took diet pills but I didn't lose weight, I gained weight

Everyone loves beauty. As young women, they usually gain weight due to carelessness in diet. It is difficult to regain confidence in life with a fat body, so many people usually pay more attention to weight loss. However, if you do not lose weight after taking diet pills, but instead start to gain weight, it means that the method is wrong or the body cannot consume.

Are weight loss pills really that effective? Are there no side effects?

First, let’s take a look at the mechanism of action of weight loss drugs. The commonly used weight loss drugs on the market mainly include two types of weight loss drugs: appetite suppressants and fat absorption blockers.

1. Appetite suppressant drugs mainly work by inhibiting the reuptake of central neurotransmitters norepinephrine and serotonin, stimulating the satiety center, making people feel full, thereby suppressing appetite and reducing energy intake to achieve the purpose of weight loss. The most widely used drug of this type in the past was fenfluramine. However, in recent years, due to the occurrence of fatal cases of serious toxic side effects such as valvular heart disease and pulmonary hypertension after taking this drug, its use has been banned worldwide.

The most widely used drug now is sibutramine, which is reported to have obvious weight loss effects, but it also has side effects such as neurological disorders and increased blood pressure. It is contraindicated in people with hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, liver and kidney damage, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, etc. Bupropion is also a central appetite suppressant. Its adverse reactions mainly include irritability, insomnia, headache, increased blood pressure, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It can also produce euphoria and is somewhat addictive.

2. The commonly used fat absorption inhibitor is orlistat, which is a new type of gastrointestinal pancreatic lipase inhibitor. After the drug combines with lipase in the intestinal cavity, the lipase is inactivated. The fat in the food is difficult to hydrolyze into absorbable free fatty acids under the action of lipase and can only be excreted in the feces. Since the absorption of fat is reduced, long-term use can achieve the purpose of controlling and maintaining weight and reducing weight rebound. However, there are also some adverse reactions caused by poor fat absorption, such as large amounts of fat or oily liquid in the stool, fecal incontinence, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, abdominal bloating, etc. Long-term use may lead to a deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins.

From the above introduction, we can see that although diet pills have a certain weight loss effect, they also have obvious side effects. Moreover, if you are only slightly overweight, as long as you can properly control your diet and increase exercise, you don’t need to take diet pills to achieve the goal of losing weight. For those who are obviously overweight or obese, they should also control their weight under the guidance of a doctor by supplementing diet, exercise, behavioral therapy and other therapies with drug therapy or other therapies such as surgery.

If you simply use drugs to lose weight, even if you achieve the goal within a certain period of time, once you stop taking the drugs, your weight will immediately go back up. Long-term use will bring a lot of side effects, which will not be worth the cost. For those who have more local fat or a poor body shape, taking weight loss drugs will have no effect at all. Only reasonable exercise can achieve the goal of changing the body shape.
