Do you always sneeze due to allergic rhinitis?

Allergic rhinitis is easily induced in winter. The temperature difference in winter is relatively large, and the air is especially dry in winter. If it is accompanied by haze, our nasal cavity is easily irritated and causes allergic rhinitis. Most people think that allergic rhinitis is not a serious disease. At most, it is just an itchy nose and sneezing. Just bear with it and there is no need for treatment. In fact, this is wrong. Allergic rhinitis is best treated in time.

Symptoms of allergic rhinitis

The main symptoms of allergic rhinitis are nasal itching, paroxysmal sneezing, large amounts of clear nasal discharge and nasal congestion, but the symptoms of each patient vary and are not all the same.

Itchy nose. Patients often have an unbearable feeling of ants crawling in their noses, which occurs several times a day. Some patients may also have itchy eyes, throat or ears, tearing, etc.

Paroxysmal sneezing occurs in paroxysmal and continuous attacks. Some people may sneeze dozens of times in a row. The symptoms are especially obvious in the morning or at night, or worsen with the change of seasons. This is a manifestation of increased nasal mucosal reactivity. Sneezing, like coughing, is a protective action accompanied by facial muscle movement, eye closure, tearing, and a temporary increase in nasal secretions.

Clear nasal discharge. Patients often have clear watery nasal discharge accompanied by sneezing, usually in large amounts. Severe patients are like turning on a "faucet". Some people have to use a lot of tissues or several handkerchiefs every day, and it often causes vestibulitis and peeling of the upper lip. Clear nasal discharge can cause increased vascular permeability in the nasal mucosa.

Nasal congestion often varies in severity. Symptoms often worsen during an attack, but may not be obvious when the attack is not ongoing. Some patients may experience persistent nasal congestion due to prolonged illness.

85% of allergic rhinitis patients have weak spleen and stomach

Talking about the causes of allergic rhinitis, President Huang Feijian said that Chinese medicine believes that the causes of allergic rhinitis are complex, such as chronic asthma, insufficient yang energy in the internal organs; weak constitution, congenital deficiency, postpartum physical weakness, and malnutrition after illness; weak defense, loose pores, and invasion of wind, cold and strange air; insufficient kidney yang, and decline of life gate fire; deficiency of both spleen and kidney, and failure of liver to release; stagnation of qi, internal accumulation of heat, a mixture of cold and heat, and nasal polyps, etc., may all cause rhinitis.

Unlike other groups, the elderly have a relatively weak constitution, so when treating allergic rhinitis, they should be treated with the method of tonifying the middle and replenishing qi, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating evil and strengthening the foundation and improving overall immunity. In addition, for the elderly, maintaining a regular life, being in a good mood, and avoiding cold and heat are all prerequisites for preventing allergic rhinitis. If conditions permit, you should also do more exercise, such as slow walking and Tai Chi every day.

Elderly patients with rhinitis should focus on replenishing qi

Unlike other groups, the elderly have a relatively weak constitution, so when treating allergic rhinitis, they should be treated with the method of tonifying the middle and replenishing qi, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating evil and strengthening the foundation and improving overall immunity. Allergic rhinitis in the elderly is mostly caused by obstructive rhinitis, which affects breathing, so they often breathe through their mouths involuntarily during sleep at night, leading to symptoms such as brain hypoxia, dizziness, and sleep disorders, which reduces their quality of life. The "Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic" states: "If the heart and lungs are diseased, the nose will be affected." Dean Huang explained that common diseases in the elderly, such as heart disease, hypertension, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, may all lead to allergic rhinitis.

Therefore, when treating allergic rhinitis in the elderly, other diseases should be treated at the same time and should not be treated alone. For those with weak lungs, they should be helped to replenish their lung qi; for those with cold lungs, they should be helped to replenish their lung qi while dispelling the cold; for those with heat in the lungs, they should be helped to replenish their lung qi while removing the heat; for those with blood stasis in the lungs, they should be helped to resolve the blood stasis. In short, doctors should treat each patient based on their actual situation and in a realistic manner. According to Director Huang, rhinitis is just a lesion, and simply treating allergic rhinitis can only treat the symptoms but not the root cause.

In addition, for the elderly, maintaining a regular life, being in a good mood, and avoiding cold and heat are all prerequisites for preventing allergic rhinitis. If conditions permit, you should also do more exercise, such as slow walking and Tai Chi every day. People with limited physical strength can take more deep breaths to increase the oxygen supply in the body and prevent the invasion of wind evil.
