Is thyroid hyperplasia a problem?

Is thyroid hyperplasia a problem?

In fact, for many people, everyone knows the disease of thyroid hyperplasia. Compared with other diseases, thyroid hyperplasia is actually not a particularly serious disease for patients. However, many people suffer from heavy psychological burden after becoming ill, which affects the treatment effect. So, does thyroid hyperplasia matter? We will introduce it to you today and hope it will be helpful to you.

Thyroid hyperplasia is actually a non-toxic goiter, also known as a simple goiter. It is an enlargement of the thyroid gland due to insufficient secretion of thyroid hormone, which increases the secretion of TSH. According to geographical distribution, it can be divided into local and sporadic types. Endemic goiter is more common in inland mountainous and semi-mountainous areas far from the coast. More than 10% of the population suffers from the disease, and the number of cases is more than 10 times that of sporadic cases.

Treatment options

1. For physiological thyroid edema, it is advisable to eat more iodine-rich foods such as kelp, seaweed, etc.

2. Patients under 20 years old with diffuse simple goiter can be given a small amount of thyroxine (TSH) to stimulate lobar secretion and relieve thyroid hyperplasia and enlargement. The usual dose is 30-60 mg, one course of treatment per day.

3. Subtotal thyroidectomy should be performed promptly in the following situations:

(1) Clinical symptoms caused by compression of the trachea, esophagus or recurrent laryngeal nerve;

(2) Retrosternal goiter;

( 3 ) Huge thyroid swelling affects life and work;

(4) Patients with secondary hyperfunction due to nodular thyroid abscess;

(5) Nodular goiter suspected of malignant transformation.

4. Avoid eating cauliflower and mustard greens; eat kelp and seaweed instead.

5. For those caused by iodine deficiency, iodine supplements are needed. In areas where goiter is endemic, iodized salt can be used for prevention and treatment.

6. People over 40 years old, especially those with nodular goiter, should avoid eating too much iodine-containing substances to avoid iodine hyperthyroidism.

7. Patients should rest in a suitable environment, which should be quiet, with fresh air, and do some moderate activities, avoiding cold, infection and trauma, and avoiding mental stimulation.

Dietary requirements

1. Calories: Because hyperthyroidism will increase the body's metabolic rate, the required calories can be increased every day.

2. Protein: You can increase the amount of protein, such as meat, eggs, milk, etc.

3. Vitamins: As the calories increase, the demand for B vitamins also increases, so pay attention to supplementation.

4. Iodine: It is a component of thyroid hormone. Giving iodine compounds to patients with hyperthyroidism can increase thyroid hormone storage and reduce release, but excessive intake will affect anti-thyroid hormone treatment. The general iodine requirement is 120-165 micrograms for adult males and 100-115 micrograms for adult females. If you are pregnant, you should increase the dosage by 10 to 15 micrograms. If you are a breastfeeding woman, you should increase the dose by 25 micrograms. Sources in food: Kelp and seafood are the main sources. In addition, there are some contents in green leafy vegetables, meat, eggs, milk, grains, and iodized salt.

5. Avoid irritating foods such as tea, coffee, cigarettes and alcohol.
