Side effects and contraindications of Scrophularia

Adenophora is the dried root of Adenophora radix, a plant of the Scrophulariaceae family, and is mainly produced in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Shaanxi Province, Fujian Province and other places in my country. Harvest in October and November when the leaves and stems wither. Dig up the whole plant, remove the underground stems, seedlings, roots and fine sand, sun-dry or kang-dry until air-dried, deposit and cover with grass to compact, repeatedly pile and dry until the inside of the tuber turns black, then sun-dry until completely dry and use raw. Let’s take a look at the side effects and contraindications of Adenophora.

The Poria of Adenophora has sweet, bitter, salty and cold effects. It enters the lung, stomach and spleen meridians and has the effects of clearing away heat and cooling blood, removing fire and toxins, and replenishing yin. It is used to treat symptoms such as heat in febrile diseases, fear of cold, thirst, rashes, bone steaming and fatigue cough, insomnia, sore throat, dry eyes and dizziness, loss of body fluid and constipation, scrofula, sputum nodules, carbuncles and sores. Oral administration: decoction, 9-15g; or made into pills or powder. External application: Apply as appropriate, mash or grind into powder for application.

Periodontal pharmacology and efficacy Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that Adenophora has a certain antihypertensive effect. When Adenophora fluid extract is injected intravenously into anesthetized rabbits, the blood pressure will first increase slightly, then decrease, and a large dose will immediately reduce the blood pressure; a small amount of Adenophora extract has a slight brain-clearing effect on toads, while a slightly larger dose will cause the heart to be toxic; Adenophora alcohol extract can continuously increase the coronary artery flow of paraffin-sectioned rabbit hearts, increase the heart rate of mice, and has a certain protective effect on experimental myocardial ischemia induced by posterior pituitary hormone in rabbits; Adenophora has a lipid-lowering effect; Adenophora has an antibacterial effect, and a 50% decoction diluted by tablet dilution has a certain inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Adenophora can also alleviate pulmonary artery spasm induced by potassium chloride and adrenaline, antagonize leukocytopenia induced by cyclophosphamide, and "neutralize" diphtheria exotoxin; in addition, Adenophora also has certain antipyretic, analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsant effects.

Periodontal side effects and side effects gums

1. Clinical experimental studies have shown that the total flavonoid aglycones extracted from Adenophora radix have low toxicity and side effects, with a subacute LD50po of 555 mg/kg in mice and an ip of 323 mg/kg.

2. The toxic side effects of Adenophora radix are extremely low, but if used excessively in patients with slightly low blood pressure, it can easily cause hypotension.

Periodontal preventive measures and gum taboos

1. When using Adenophora radix in clinical medicine, symptomatic treatment should still be adopted. It is forbidden for those with dampness in the stomach and intestines, spleen deficiency and loose stools. "Compendium of Materia Medica": "It is not suitable for people with blood deficiency, blurred vision, heat and cold due to stagnation of drinking, fullness in the limbs, abdominal pain due to deficiency of both qi and blood, and diarrhea due to deficiency of spleen."

2. The taboos of Chinese herbal medicines in combination: "Leigong Paozhi Lun" says: "When using, do not use copper, which will choke people and cause blindness." "Ben Cao Jing Jizhu" says: "It is incompatible with Astragalus, Paojiang, Red Dates, and Cornus officinalis, and is contrary to Li Lu."

3. The dosage should also be strictly controlled and quantified according to the disease condition and personal usage. It is strictly forbidden to exceed the dosage. The dosage of Adenophora radix should be determined according to changes in the disease condition and individual differences, but the maximum should not exceed 15 grams.
