Is indirect hernia serious?

Inguinal oblique hernia mainly refers to the protrusion of the inguinal canal located in the inferior epigastric artery due to abdominal distension, which will eventually form the inguinal canal. This is also a common hernia phenomenon. If not treated in time, it will cause great harm to the patient's health and may even lead to more serious complications. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out good treatment in time. More serious cases can be treated through surgery.

Is indirect hernia serious?

Oblique inguinal hernia refers to a type of inguinal hernia in which the abdominal viscera protrude through the deep ring of the inguinal canal (oval foramen of the transverse abdominal fascia) located outside the inferior epigastric artery, move inward, downward, and forward obliquely through the inguinal canal, then pass through the superficial inguinal ring (subcutaneous ring), and even enter the scrotum. It accounts for 95% of inguinal hernias. It is more common on the right side than on the left side, with the male to female incidence ratio being 15:1.

From the perspective of the mechanism and time of occurrence, inguinal oblique hernia is divided into congenital and acquired. From the perspective of the development process and degree of the disease, it is divided into reducible hernia, irreducible hernia, incarcerated hernia and strangulated hernia. Inguinal hernias are prone to incarceration and may cause serious complications if not treated promptly.

Treatment

1. Non-surgical treatment Conservative treatment includes hernia belts, hernia supports, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. These methods can relieve symptoms or delay the development of the disease, but they cannot cure it. Some improper conservative treatments may even aggravate the condition. This method is only suitable for infants under 1 year old, the elderly and frail people or those with serious illnesses who cannot tolerate surgery.

2. Surgery The most effective treatment for inguinal hernia is surgical repair. Reducible hernias can be treated with elective surgery, while irreducible hernias should be treated with surgery within a short period of time. Incarcerated hernias and strangulated hernias must be treated with emergency surgery to avoid serious consequences. The surgical methods can be summarized into the following three types. (1) The basic principle of traditional hernia repair surgery is high ligation of the hernia sac and strengthening or repair of the inguinal canal wall. The abdominal muscles of infants and young children will gradually become stronger during development, thus strengthening the abdominal wall. Simple high ligation of the hernia sac can often achieve satisfactory results without the need for hernia repair. Strangulated hernia is caused by intestinal necrosis and severe local infection, and usually only high ligation of the hernia sac is used. The main methods to strengthen or repair the inguinal canal wall include the Ferguson method to repair the anterior wall of the inguinal canal, and the Bassini method, Halsted method, McVay method and Shouldice method to repair the posterior wall of the inguinal canal. (2) Tension-free hernia repair Traditional hernia repair has disadvantages such as high suture tension, pulling sensation and pain in the surgical site after surgery, etc. Tension-free hernia repair has the characteristics of light postoperative pain, fast recovery and low recurrence rate. The main popular surgical procedures include Lichtenstein surgery, Rutkow surgery and Stoppa surgery. (3) Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair In recent years, laparoscopic surgery has made significant progress. There are four main methods, namely, transperitoneal anterior approach (TAPA), totally extraperitoneal approach (TEA), transintraperitoneal approach (IPOM) and simple hernia ring suture.
