What to do if the tear ducts of the elderly are blocked

The main reason why tear ducts are blocked in the elderly is that their eye organs begin to degenerate, which can cause symptoms of tear duct stenosis. In addition, the symptoms of tear duct blockage in the elderly are not easy to detect, so when tear duct blockage is discovered, it should be treated in time. Tear duct obstruction in the elderly may be caused by trachoma or inflammation, and we should repair the tear duct obstruction through surgery.

Some eye organs of a 60-year-old person may have already degenerated. In this case, the tear duct may also degenerate or even become narrow. In this case, the tears secreted by the tear glands sometimes cannot be discharged into the nasal cavity normally. At this time, tears will overflow and cause the patient to cry. Of course, there are some situations that can also cause the eyes to keep crying. For example, when the body resistance of the elderly is relatively poor, their ability to resist external pathogens also becomes weaker. At this time, they are easily infected by Chlamydia trachomatis or other pathogens, which leads to trachoma and causes tearing.

Steps/Methods:

1. If an elderly person suffers from trachoma, the conjunctiva will become congested and very thick, which will cause the transparency of the conjunctiva to disappear. In addition, the inflammation on the conjunctiva will constantly stimulate the lacrimal glands, which will produce a lot of tears. Excessive tears will easily lead to epiphora.

2. If the inflammation after suffering from trachoma develops further, there will be many foreign objects in the tear duct. These foreign objects will block the tear duct and can also cause tearing. Of course, tears in the elderly's eyes may also be caused by external smoke and cold air stimulation, so the elderly should pay attention to protecting their eyes and wear eye masks when going out.

3. In general, the cause of tears in the elderly may be trachoma or chronic conjunctivitis, or it may be lacrimal duct inflammation or dacryocystitis, or it may be because of the abnormal position of the lacrimal puncta. These conditions can cause the tear duct to become narrow, which can lead to complete blockage of the tear duct, which will block the tear drainage channel and cause tearing. In fact, this phenomenon should be called epiphora.

Note:

The eye organs of the elderly are constantly degenerating, and they are very susceptible to external infections and stimuli that may cause eye diseases. Therefore, the elderly must take good care of their eyes, keep the area around their eyes clean, avoid rubbing their eyes all the time, and avoid overworking their eyes for long periods of time.
