Depression Self-Test

Depression Self-Test

It is well known that people are under great pressure in life nowadays. Faced with such great pressure, many of our friends are more or less depressed. There is a popular saying on the Internet: "If you don't have a little depression, you'd be embarrassed to go out." In fact, this situation does exist, but many friends’ depression is relatively mild, and they can be cured through psychological counseling from friends. If you also want to check whether you have depression, why not take a depression self-test.

The depression self-test is very simple. Generally, you can find out whether you have depression by doing some test questions and then comparing the answers. However, for patients with more severe symptoms of depression, please do not ignore the harm of the disease. Timely treatment is the key.

Dr. David D. Burns, a new generation of American psychotherapist and professor at the University of Pennsylvania, designed a self-diagnosis form for depression, the "Burns Depression Checklist (BDC)". This self-diagnosis form can help you quickly diagnose whether you have depression. Please rate the item that matches your mood: 0 for none, 1 for mild, 2 for moderate, 3 for severe.

1. Sadness: Do you feel sad or miserable all the time?

2. Discouragement: Do you feel that the future is bleak?

3. Lack of self-esteem: Do you feel worthless or like a loser?

4. Inferiority complex: Do you feel inadequate or inferior to others?

5. Guilt: Do you blame yourself for everything?

6. Hesitation: Do you hesitate when making decisions?

7. Restlessness: Have you been feeling angry and unhappy during this period?

8. Loss of interest in life: Have you lost interest in your career, family, hobbies, or friends?

9. Loss of motivation: Do you feel sluggish and have no motivation to do anything?

10. Poor self-image: Do you think you have aged or lost your attractiveness?

11. Changes in appetite: Do you feel a loss of appetite or feel compelled to overeat?

12. Sleep changes: Do you suffer from insomnia or feel tired and drowsy all day?

13. Loss of sexual desire: Have you lost interest in sex?

14. Paranoia: Do you often worry about your health?

15. Suicidal impulses: Do you think that life is worthless or that life is worse than death?

After taking the test, calculate your total score and rate your level of depression.

0 to 4 points, no depression;

5-10 points, occasional depression;

11-20 points, mild depression;

21-30 points, moderate depression;

31-45 points indicates severe depression.

After conducting a self-test for depression, for occasional or mild patients, you only need to vent your stress in a timely manner and find the right way to vent, which will not harm your body. For patients with moderate or severe depression, the best approach is a combination of psychological counseling and drug therapy.
