Advanced symptoms of colon cancer

Colon cancer is a common gastrointestinal tumor, ranking third in incidence. It is a very common malignant digestive tract tumor occurring in the colon. The highest incidence is among middle-aged people between the ages of 40 and 50. The incidence in women is higher than that in men, basically 1.5 times, but obese men are the most susceptible group to this disease. There are three types of colon cancer: undifferentiated carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Regular consumption of high-fat foods and insufficient fiber intake are the main causes of colon cancer. Family genetic factors can also induce colon cancer. Colon cancer is divided into early, middle and late stages. In the late stage of colon cancer, signs of liver metastasis such as jaundice, ascites, edema, a concave mass in front of the rectum, enlarged supraclavicular lymph nodes, etc. will appear, which are manifestations of distant spread and metastasis of the tumor.

Colon cancer has different clinical manifestations depending on the location of the cancer and is divided into right-sided colon cancer and left-sided colon cancer. Right-sided colon cancer will cause liquid stools and rarely cause obstruction. If the tumor ulcerates, it will cause bleeding, followed by infection, abdominal pain, abdominal mass, cachexia, and anemia, and the patient will become very thin. If it is a semi-colon cancer, the stool will become dry and hard.

And often manifests as acute or chronic intestinal obstruction. The resulting mass is smaller in size and will not ulcerate or bleed, nor will toxins be absorbed. Whether it is right-sided or left-sided colon cancer, organ metastasis will occur, often to the liver. Once colon cancer cells enter the blood, they will metastasize through the blood to reach tissues and organs such as bones, lungs and even the brain.

Patients with advanced colon cancer often experience adverse symptoms such as drowsiness, dysphagia, general paralysis, nausea and vomiting, mental confusion, ascites, incontinence, dyspnea, anorexia, and rapid weight loss in the last stage of their lives. Colon cancer is mainly treated through surgical resection, so it is important to detect and treat it early. If the cancer cells spread to the middle or late stages, it will be difficult to treat.
