Symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly

There are many symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly, and generally speaking, the symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly are not much different from those in ordinary people. Chronic gastritis in the elderly is a disease that elderly people are prone to, and it is relatively difficult to cure. The treatment cycle of this type of chronic gastritis in the elderly is relatively long, which is also determined by the current medical level.

Of course, the treatment effect of chronic gastritis in the elderly is actually closely related to the individual's physical fitness. For many patients in better health, the treatment time is generally very short; on the contrary, for patients in poor health, the treatment time is relatively longer. So, let’s first introduce the symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly.

Chronic gastritis refers to chronic inflammation or atrophic lesions of the gastric mucosa caused by repeated effects of different causes on susceptible humans. The essence of this disease is that after the gastric mucosal epithelium is repeatedly damaged, the mucosa undergoes reconstruction due to its specific regenerative ability, and eventually leads to irreversible atrophy or even disappearance of the intrinsic gastric glands.

Symptoms

The course of chronic gastritis is prolonged, and most patients have no obvious typical clinical symptoms. The most common clinical manifestation is upper abdominal fullness and discomfort, which is more severe after meals. And dull pain without obvious pattern, belching, acid reflux, burning sensation, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. It is common that eating cold, hard, spicy or other irritating foods can induce worsening of symptoms. Some patients may experience loss of appetite, dizziness, fatigue, weight loss, anemia, glossitis, tongue atrophy and peripheral neuropathy. Such as abnormal sensation in the limbs. If chronic gastritis is accompanied by gastric mucosal erosion, small or large amounts of upper gastrointestinal bleeding may occur. Black stools usually stop after 3 to 4 days. Long-term bleeding can cause anemia. Among them, the clinical manifestations of type A gastritis, such as loss of appetite, weight loss, anemia, fatigue, and peripheral neuropathy, are more severe. The severity of the clinical manifestations of chronic gastritis is often inconsistent with the pathological changes in the mucosa. If it cannot reflect the true condition of the disease, a series of clinical examinations should be conducted to clarify the condition.

Pathological etiology

There are many causes of chronic gastritis, which can be divided into nonspecific and specific. Nonspecific gastritis is the most common (Table 1). Specific gastritis refers to inflammatory changes in the gastric mucosa caused by various bacteria (tuberculosis, syphilis), viruses (cytomegalovirus, herpes virus, HIV), parasites (amoeba, schistosomiasis), and fungi (Candida, Histoplasma, Cryptococcus, Mucor).

Disease diagnosis

The symptoms of chronic gastritis are non-specific and may occur in many gastrointestinal diseases. Diseases that need to be differentiated include peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, early gastric cancer, cholecystitis, gallstones, etc. Non-erosive gastritis belongs to the category of non-ulcer dyspepsia and is divided into reflux-like type, ulcer-like type, dysmotility-like type, idiopathic type, etc.

Through the detailed introduction in the above article, we can know the symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly. In fact, as mentioned above, the so-called symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly are basically these. The symptoms of chronic gastritis in the elderly generally include: belching, nausea, dry heaving, dizziness, fatigue, etc., so I hope everyone will pay attention to these aspects in the future.
