What causes red urine?

When our body is relatively healthy or when there are some problems with the body, some phenomena will appear. As long as we pay more attention to observation, we will discover some diseases in time. What causes red urine?

Red urine is considered hematuria, which is often caused by diseases of the urinary organs. Human urine is produced in the kidneys and excreted from the body through the renal pelvis, ureters, bladder, and urethra. If any of these organs are diseased or bleeding occurs, it can cause hematuria.

Common diseases that cause hematuria include various nephritis, urinary tract infection, hemorrhagic cystitis, urinary tract stones, renal tuberculosis, renal tumors, kidney and urethra injuries, etc.

Causes of hematuria

Renal tuberculosis hematuria:

In the early stage, only red blood cells and pus cells are found in the urine, followed by frequent urination, urgency, pain and terminal hematuria. Patients often have a history of tuberculosis.

Prostatic hyperplasia hematuria:

A small number of patients experience gross hematuria caused by ruptured blood vessels in the cystoscopic mucosa, sometimes with blood clots.

Urinary stones and hematuria:

Bladder and urethral stones can cause difficulty in urination, labored urination, and hematuria, while kidney and ureteral stones can cause renal colic. If accompanied by infection, fever, chills, etc. may occur. 

Urinary tract tumors cause hematuria. Renal pelvic tumors often cause hematuria.

Hematuria in renal cell carcinoma occurs in 50-60% of cases. One quarter of renal tumor cases are already in the advanced stage at the time of diagnosis. Characteristics of hematuria: painless, intermittent hematuria throughout the course, sometimes a mass in the abdomen can be felt, accompanied by weight loss and fever, etc. Bladder cancer hematuria: ranks first among tumors in the urinary system, seen in 90% of cases, with macroscopic hematuria accounting for 50%. Characteristics of hematuria: painless hematuria throughout the entire process, sometimes accompanied by worsening terminal hematuria, occurs intermittently, and the intervals between episodes can easily give the patient the illusion that they have been cured. It can be diagnosed by cystoscopy. 

Nephroptosis and hematuria:

The main symptoms are low back pain, which worsens with work and walking and disappears after lying down. There is often hematuria of varying degrees in the urine, often accompanied by hydronephrosis.

Precautions

1. Rest in bed and minimize strenuous activities.

2. Drink plenty of water to reduce salt crystals in urine and speed up the excretion of drugs and stones. However, people with nephritis who have developed edema should drink less water.

3. Use hemostatic drugs.

4. Use drugs that cause hematuria with caution, especially in people who already have kidney disease.

5. The causes of hematuria are complex, and some cases are very serious. You should go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis as soon as possible to achieve the goal of cure.
