What is the difference between breakthrough bleeding and menstruation?

In fact, there is no need to distinguish between breakthrough bleeding and menstruation. Breakthrough bleeding is generally the result of medication, such as oral contraceptives. However, breakthrough bleeding does not happen to anyone, and the cause of breakthrough bleeding is very simple. It has little to do with some diseases such as cancer. You don’t have to worry too much. Generally, the bleeding will disappear spontaneously when taking the medicine.

There are two types of breakthrough bleeding : those whose estrogen levels are low and maintained at the threshold level for a long time often have intermittent small amounts of bleeding that lasts for a long time, and the endometrium repairs slowly; those whose estrogen levels are high and can maintain effective concentrations often have a long period of amenorrhea first, but because there is no ovulation and no progesterone to counteract it, the endometrium is not firm and is easily shed over a large area, resulting in acute breakthrough bleeding with a large amount of blood.

Progesterone is a natural pregnancy hormone for women. It plays an important role in maintaining pregnancy and influencing the morphology of the endometrium through estrogen. Progesterone, also known as progesterone, is secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary and has a great impact on female fertility. When the progesterone level in a woman's body is low, it can easily lead to menstrual abnormalities. Pregnant women are prone to habitual abortion, threatened abortion and other phenomena. Therefore, when progesterone is found to be low, it must be supplemented in time. Taking progesterone capsules is a way to supplement progesterone.

The role of progesterone in preserving pregnancy is very limited. Progesterone is a progestin that is useful for threatened abortion caused by insufficient luteal secretion and progesterone deficiency. But first you have to figure out whether you are deficient in progesterone. The use of progesterone in normal conditions of progesterone deficiency does not pose a risk.

As a hormonal drug, progesterone also has certain side effects. It may cause weight gain in women, sodium and water retention, and in severe cases, local edema.

The use of progestins to treat threatened abortion is no longer recommended internationally, especially in early pregnancy. It can also cause breakthrough bleeding in women. The so-called breakthrough bleeding is one of the side effects of oral contraceptives, but not everyone will experience breakthrough bleeding. The reason is actually very simple. It is caused by endometrial malnutrition leading to tissue degeneration. It has nothing to do with the occurrence of uterine cancer. There is no need to worry at all. The bleeding will disappear naturally during the medication process. You can also use other types of contraceptives, or take 1.5-2 times the original dose, and the bleeding will stop.

Another way to prevent bleeding is to stop taking the medication as soon as bleeding occurs and restart it on the fifth day after the bleeding started. If the bleeding does not stop after taking the above measures, it should be considered that it is caused by other diseases. When switching to other contraceptive methods, a comprehensive examination must be carried out.
