What to do if you have a shingles headache

What to do if you have a shingles headache

Shingles is a contagious skin disease that is common in spring. And if not treated properly it will leave ugly scars. It's so miserable. Shingles is mainly caused by infection with the varicella-zoster virus, which remains dormant in the body and recurs, causing clusters of blisters arranged in a band-like pattern along the skin areas innervated by the nerves, accompanied by neuralgia. So what should you do if shingles causes a headache?

1 After contracting shingles, the virus will damage the patient's peripheral nerves and cause pain, which is herpes zoster neuralgia. The main characteristics of herpes zoster neuralgia are persistent, paroxysmal burning pain or deep throbbing pain in the skin, spontaneous knife-like pain, etc. This kind of pain is difficult for ordinary people to experience.

2 The correct prevention and treatment method is that the earlier the antiviral treatment is when you get the disease, the less residual neuralgia there will be in the later stage. It is generally believed that the older the patient is, the greater the possibility of suffering from neuralgia, and people with weaker physical constitutions are also prone to this disease, so you must pay attention to physical exercise in your daily life.

3. Get timely treatment to relieve pain. Sometimes patients may experience varying degrees of pain, general discomfort, low-grade fever, loss of appetite and other symptoms. Patients must actively cooperate with treatment and try to avoid scratching with their hands to avoid secondary infection, aggravation of the condition, or transmission to others.

4. Notes:

You should rest in bed. To prevent blisters from bursting, lie on your healthy side. Bed sheets and blankets should be kept clean, underwear should be changed frequently and should be soft to prevent friction from aggravating the pain. When the pain is severe, you can take painkillers or inject procaine around the corresponding nerves, which can often provide rapid relief.
