Can I drink yogurt after surgery?

Can I drink yogurt after surgery?

Patients can drink yogurt appropriately after surgery, mainly because yogurt contains a lot of protein and calcium, which can promote body recovery, so it is recommended that everyone can understand the post-operative care methods. It is okay to drink yogurt after surgery, but when drinking yogurt we should pay attention to the type of surgery to avoid affecting the results of the surgery, especially in the case of fractures. It is best to drink milk instead of yogurt.

1. Can I drink yogurt after fracture surgery?

Avoid blindly supplementing calcium. Calcium is an important raw material for the formation of bones. Some people believe that supplementing more calcium after a fracture can accelerate the healing of broken bones. However, scientific research has found that increasing calcium intake does not accelerate the healing of broken bones, and for patients with fractures who are bedridden for a long time, there is a potential risk of increased blood calcium and a decrease in blood phosphorus. This is due to long-term bed rest, which on the one hand inhibits the absorption and utilization of calcium, and on the other hand increases the reabsorption of calcium by the renal tubules. Therefore, for patients with fractures, there is no lack of calcium in the body. As long as they strengthen functional exercises and move as early as possible according to their condition and the doctor's instructions, they can promote the bone's absorption and utilization of calcium and accelerate the healing of broken bones. Especially for patients who are bedridden after a fracture, blindly supplementing calcium is of no benefit and may even be harmful. So don't drink yogurt casually, it's best to consult a doctor first.

2. Causes of fracture

Direct violence

Violence directly acts on a certain part of the bone, causing a fracture in that part, resulting in a fracture in the injured part, often accompanied by varying degrees of soft tissue damage. If the wheel hits the calf, a fracture of the tibia and fibula will occur at the impact site.

Indirect violence

Indirect violence can cause fractures at a distance through longitudinal conduction, leverage or torsion. For example, when someone falls from a height and lands on his feet, the trunk bends forward sharply due to gravity, causing compression or burst fractures of the vertebrae at the junction of the thoracic and lumbar spine.

Cumulative strain

Long-term, repeated, minor direct or indirect injuries can cause fractures in a specific part of the limbs, also known as fatigue fractures. For example, long-distance walking can easily lead to fractures of the second and third metatarsal bones and the lower 1/3 of the fibula.

3. Specific signs of fracture

The displacement of deformed fracture ends can change the appearance of the affected limb, mainly manifested as shortening, angulation, and lengthening.

Abnormal activity: Parts of the limb that cannot move under normal circumstances will have abnormal activities after a fracture.

Bone crepitus or bone friction sensation: After a fracture, the two fracture ends rub against each other, causing bone crepitus or bone friction sensation.

The diagnosis can be confirmed if any one of the above three signs is found, but the absence of these three signs cannot rule out the possibility of fracture, such as impacted fracture or fissure fracture. In general, do not check for these signs for diagnostic purposes as this may worsen the injury.
