Is 37.3 degrees considered a fever?

The baby's body is very fragile. Many mothers are very careful when taking care of their babies, but even so, the baby will still catch a cold and have a fever. However, because the normal body temperature of a baby is different from that of an adult, many mothers do not know what body temperature is considered a fever for their baby. In order to better take care of the baby, this article analyzes the question of whether 37.3 degrees is considered a fever.

Want to know if 37.3 degrees is considered a fever? First of all, I hope that all parents and friends can understand the normal body temperature of the baby. Even if 37.3 degrees is considered a fever, it is generally not recommended that you let the baby take medicine, because this degree of fever can be solved by physical cooling methods.

The normal basal body temperature of children is 36.9-37.5℃. Generally, when the body temperature exceeds the basal body temperature by more than 1℃, it is considered a fever. Among them, low fever refers to body temperature fluctuating around 38°C, and high fever refers to body temperature above 39°C. Continuous fever for more than two weeks is called long-term fever. The above-mentioned basal body temperature refers to the rectal temperature, which is measured from the anus. Generally, the oral temperature is 0.3-0.5℃ lower than the rectal temperature. The armpit and neck temperature is 0.3-0.5℃ lower than the oral temperature, that is, 36-37℃.

A child's body temperature (based on axillary temperature) over 37°C is considered to have a fever. A temperature between 37°C and 38°C is a low fever, 38.1°C to 39°C is a moderate fever, 39.1°C to 40.4°C is a high fever, and above 40.3°C is a very high fever. The temperature regulation center in the brain of a newborn is not yet fully developed, and sometimes the body temperature is higher than 37°C, but it is still normal when it is below 37.5°C.

The normal body temperature is 36.5℃-37℃ based on oral temperature. The axillary temperature is 0.5℃ lower than the oral temperature, while the rectal temperature is 0.5℃ higher. For infants and young children, rectal temperature should be measured, while for children, axillary temperature can be measured. The normal axillary temperature should be between 36℃ and 37℃. The human body temperature is not affected by the air temperature, but the axillary temperature is easily affected by the environment. Axillary temperature has more interference factors, while rectal temperature has the opposite and is the most accurate. When measuring body temperature, the skin must be dry. If the armpits are wet, they should be wiped dry before clamping the thermometer, otherwise the result will be inaccurate. In winter, the temperature can only be accurately measured after at least half an hour after entering the room from outdoors.

After understanding the question of whether 37.3 degrees is considered a fever, if your baby does have a fever, in the case of a low fever, it is recommended that you perform physical cooling for the baby, such as using alcohol to wipe the soles of the baby's feet and palms, or using warm water to wipe the baby's body, etc. These methods can achieve the cooling effect.
