Can saliva transmit diseases?

There are many types of sexually transmitted diseases. Some are transmitted through saliva, such as oral condyloma acuminatum, or oral ulcers, which are caused by oral contact, saliva, or droplets. Some sexually transmitted diseases are not contagious unless oral ulcers occur, which may lead to infection.

There are 5 major characteristics of sexually transmitted diseases

1. Sexually transmitted diseases are highly infectious to the human mucous membranes.

The skin and mucous membranes are the body's natural barrier against disease. People come into contact with countless harmful microorganisms every day, but rarely get infected. Even if there is a wound on the skin, it will heal naturally within three to five days. However, the human mucous membrane has almost no resistance to the pathogenic microorganisms of sexually transmitted diseases, so most sexually transmitted diseases are transmitted through the genital mucosa. Once people are infected by pathogenic microorganisms of sexually transmitted diseases, they are very likely to become ill. 2. After recovering from sexually transmitted diseases, you cannot obtain solid immunity.

After many infectious diseases are cured, patients can gain post-disease immunity, and some immunity can last a lifetime. Patients who have acquired immunity will not become ill again if they are exposed to pathogenic microorganisms that infected them. This is not the case with sexually transmitted diseases. Even after being cured, the patient may become ill again due to reinfection.

3. Sexually transmitted diseases can endanger the patient's spouse and children.

If one of a couple has a sexually transmitted disease, the disease will be passed back and forth between the two of them, and unless both parties are cured at the same time, the spread will continue endlessly. If infants and young children are with parents who have sexually transmitted diseases day and night, the possibility of being infected is very high. Some sexually transmitted diseases can even be transmitted from the mother to the fetus through the placenta, such as syphilis and AIDS. If the fetus is infected with Treponema pallidum, congenital syphilis features will appear on the face after birth. 4. Sexually transmitted diseases cannot be transmitted through insect bites.

In clinical practice, diseases transmitted through insect bites are not uncommon, such as malaria and Japanese encephalitis. If a mosquito bites a patient with malaria or Japanese encephalitis and then bites a healthy person, the healthy person may be infected with malaria or Japanese encephalitis. However, studies have confirmed that sexually transmitted diseases cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites, and the mechanism is not yet fully understood. ?

5. The pathogenic microorganisms of sexually transmitted diseases have very low resistance to the outside world .

Mycobacterium tuberculosis can survive for more than 3 months in a dry environment. Therefore, Mycobacterium tuberculosis can be transmitted through close contact between people in daily life. After the pus containing staphylococci dries, the staphylococci can still survive for 2 to 3 months. The infectious ability of Salmonella in feces can also be maintained for 1 to 2 months. The pathogens of sexually transmitted diseases die quickly after leaving the human body, so the chance of indirect transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is relatively small. For example, the syphilis Treponema pallidum will die within one hour in a dry environment after leaving the human body; gonococci can dissolve on their own after leaving the human body, and even if they do not dissolve on their own, they will lose their infectiousness in a short time; the terrifying AIDS virus will also quickly lose its infectiousness after leaving the human body.
