What does asthenia mean?

When it comes to asthenia, many people do not understand what it means and what its main symptoms are. Asthenia in traditional Chinese medicine is actually what people often call overwork, which is caused by excessive irritability, tension, fatigue and other factors. Asthenia does not discriminate between men and women. Anyone who does not pay attention to the body for a long time and does not get a good rest and relaxation for the body and mind will easily develop asthenia. So how can we prevent it?

Fever caused by asthenia and fatigue is more common in cases of yin deficiency. "Treatise on the Causes and Symptoms of Various Diseases·Symptoms of Consumption and Fever" states: "Consumption and fever are caused by insufficient Yin and excess Yang, so heat is generated both inside and outside the body, not by evil Qi invading from outside." It is mostly caused by having sex after being drunk or full, worrying about overwork, eating disorders, or being extremely happy, angry, in pain, or depressed. The initial symptoms include night fever, internal heat and false heat. This disease is caused by bone steaming, internal heat and hot flashes. The treatment should be to nourish yin, clear heat, dispel evil and moisten dryness (see "Lixu Yuanjian" Volume 1). It can also be caused by blood stasis. "Four Major Syndromes and Treatments of Wind-Laundry and Ascites·Consumption": "Consumption and fever are all caused by blood stasis." "This is due to excessive eating and drinking, irregular daily routines, which lead to stagnation of the Ying and Wei systems, first causing internal injuries, and then blood stasis wherever the Qi is blocked." This is a syndrome of excess within deficiency, and the treatment is mainly to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis, with prescriptions such as Da Huang (Shu^Chong) Chong Wan. Symptoms of asthenia

1. Symptoms include fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath, haggard face, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, fever in the five parts of the body, chills, cold limbs, weak pulse, etc. If the disease lasts for a long time and the patient is not cured, the symptoms may gradually become more severe.

2. The patient has pathogenic factors that cause asthenia and a long medical history.

3. Exclude similar diseases and symptoms. Emphasis should be placed on excluding deficiency syndrome types in tuberculosis and other diseases.

Diet therapy for asthenia

Raw earth stewed duck eggs

Use 20 grams of raw earth and 1 to 2 duck eggs each time, add appropriate amount of water and stew them in a double boiler. After the eggs are cooked, peel them and put them into the juice and stew for 20 minutes. Season with rock sugar, eat the eggs and drink the juice, once a day or 2 to 3 times a week.

It has the effects of nourishing yin and clearing heat, promoting fluid production and quenching thirst. It is suitable for people who suffer from dry mouth and throat, and swollen and painful gums after staying up late.

Pork Loin Stewed with Eucommia

Use 25 grams of Eucommia ulmoides and 1 pig kidney each time, stew in appropriate amount of water for 1 hour, and take once a day or every 2 to 3 days.

It has the effect of nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening the muscles and bones. It is suitable for people who suffer from back pain and fatigue in the limbs after staying up late.

Lotus seeds and lily stew with lean meat

Use 20 grams of lotus seeds (core removed), 20 grams of lily bulbs, and 100 grams of lean pork each time, add appropriate amount of water and cook together. After the meat is cooked, add salt to taste and eat once a day.

It has the effects of clearing the heart and moistening the lungs, replenishing qi and calming the mind. It is suitable for people who suffer from dry cough, insomnia, irritability, palpitations, etc. after staying up late.

Kudzu Root Fish Soup

Each time, wash and cut 250 grams of kudzu into small pieces. Remove the gills and internal organs of a raw fish, add appropriate amount of water and boil together. After the fish is cooked, add shredded ginger, oil and salt to season. Eat the fish and drink the soup. Do this once a month or every other day.

It has the effects of relaxing muscles and tendons, replenishing qi and blood, and relieving muscle pain. It is suitable for people who suffer from intramuscular aches and swollen neck muscles after excessive labor and staying up late.

Prunella Vulgaris Stew with Lean Meat

Use 10 grams of Prunella Vulgaris, 50 to 100 grams of lean pork and an appropriate amount of water each time. After the meat is cooked, add a little salt to season it. Eat the meat and drink the juice, once a day.

It has the effect of clearing liver fire and lowering blood pressure. It is suitable for patients with hypertension who suffer from dizziness, headache and red eyes after staying up late.

Prevention of asthenia

1. Prevent external evil, avoid wind and cold, adapt to cold and temperature, and try to reduce colds and flu.

2. Adjust your diet, curb your desires, and use dietary therapy according to your physical condition and the condition of your spleen and stomach. Those with yin deficiency and blood deficiency should use clearing tonics, while those with yang deficiency and qi deficiency should use warm tonics. Eat less or avoid spicy, greasy, raw, cold, and unclean foods, and quit smoking and drinking.

3. Balance work and rest, and be careful in your daily life. Live a regular life, combine movement and rest, balance work and rest, and participate in sports activities to enhance your ability to resist evil.

4. Relax your emotions, worry less, and stay optimistic and stable. Be moderate in sexual intercourse to avoid wasting your essence.

5. Thoroughly treat various chronic diseases to prevent damage to the internal organs, qi and blood, and the onset of exhaustion and weakness.
